Our Governors

Dear Parents and Carers,

On behalf of the governing body, I am proud to welcome you to The Fairfield Community Primary School. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce my fellow governors and to share with you the purpose of our role.

Our aim as governors is to work with the Headteacher and her staff to ensure the pupils in school achieve their full potential in a happy, caring and safe environment.

We do this in four main ways:

  • Along with the Headteacher, plan the strategic direction of the school, agreeing aims and objectives for the school.
  • Monitor safeguarding procedures in the school, the progress the school is making in addressing areas for improvement as well as the performance and progress of the pupils.
  • Provide support for the staff to help them teach and care for the pupils.
  • Decide how the resources of the school are best used.

We meet several times each term – our full governing body meetings happen four times per year and our two sub-committees (staffing/curriculum and finance/premises) meet termly.

Our scrutiny sub-committee plans the work of the governing body and monitors closely the progress the school is making is addressing the key areas for improvement identified by the school and as a result of the Ofsted inspection. We also attend governor training sessions and visit the school during the day as much as possible in order to talk to staff and pupils.

The Governing Body reviews its own performance on an annual basis and has its own plan for improvement section in the School Improvement Plan.

The members of the school's governing body are representative of all the key groups involved in our school – the Parents, the Staff, the Local Authority and the wider Community. Some are appointed and some are elected. All serve for a term of four years.

We are always keen to hear your views and we hope that this page will help you to understand better what we do, who we are and why we are serving as Governors.

If you have any questions regarding the work of the governing body, please contact me via the school office. I also look forward to meeting as many of you as possible when I am in school.
