Nursery

Our Nursery class provides a high quality education for children from after their third birthday until they start school.

We offer one session a day which starts at 9.00am. The doors are open from 8.45am for pupils to come into school, and finishes at 12 noon in a dedicated classroom and exciting outdoor learning area.

Many of the children in the class move on to the Reception class here, joined by children from other local nurseries.

Rebecca Wilford manages our provision and is always happy to meet parents or carers who are interested in our provision.

Welcome from the Team

Hello and welcome to Nursery; this is where the adventure begins.

In Nursery we love to learn through play and exploration. We have lots of exciting indoor and outdoor learning spaces throughout our Early Years unit. These include sand and water exploration, a role play area, construction areas, creative craft areas, as well as lots of integrated opportunities to begin to develop early writing and maths skills. We also have a cosy 'book nook’ within our classroom, where children can snuggle up with Big Ted and his friends to enjoy a story or two.

Apart from ‘group times’, where we share our ideas, learn new skills and reflect upon our learning, we can choose when and where we play, both inside and outside. We do lots of learning through active play which is organised to ensure we make progress in all areas of our development. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which spans over seven areas of learning; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Communication and Language; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Each morning when we arrive, we find our special self-registration card before joining together as a group to welcome each other, share our news and talk about our learning. We then get down to the serious business of playing and having lots of fun! Each day, we choose a new 'special helper', who helps with important jobs such as collecting the milk, returning the register and handing out book bags at the end of the morning. We also take it in turns to take home our ‘Marvellous Me’ box, which we can fill with some of our special things from home, such as photographs, books and small toys. When we return to Nursery, we have the opportunity to share the contents of the box with our teachers and classmates and talk about why these things are important to us.

We aim to give our children a wide range of enriching experiences during their time at Nursery. This includes a weekly ‘Welly Wednesday’ session, when we venture into our environmental garden (in all weathers) to explore, discover, dig, plant, build dens and develop a greater understanding and appreciation of nature and each other. We also enjoy regular visits to our local library, where we love to meet Ali, our friendly librarian, for a story and sing song before returning to Nursery with our chosen books.

Our fantastic team work hard together to ensure each child feels safe, valued and nurtured. Together we provide our children with endless opportunities for fun and learning and endeavour to give them the best possible start to their school life.
