Year 5

Welcome to Year 5.

Year 5 are taught by Mrs Ledger and supported by Mrs Guilding. In Year 5 we aim to develop and expand a range of skills that have been taught throughout school as well as encouraging pupils to try new experiences through a cross-curricular, active curriculum. We want to help children become independent learners and positive contributors to their school and wider community.

Each term we will have a particular topic and our learning will be centred on that theme. We will spend time developing our art and DT skills creating a stimulating environment full of works of art, key vocabulary and our own work in order to aid our learning for that term.

Using methods such as: Talk for writing, Inspire maths, Read Write Inc (phonics and spellings) and Dear Time, allows pupils to explore and develop skills which are linked through every lesson creating key connections which enhances learning. Read the newsletter each week to hear about the next curriculum evening where you can learn more about each method we use (and have a go yourself with all the resources!).

Across this year, along with PE in school we will be taking part in dance, gymnastics and swimming lessons led by trained professionals. What an opportunity! We will also take part in a range of activities in every subject that allows us to work with various members of our class to develop our speaking and listening skills, share ideas and learn together.

Pupils are encouraged to read at home every day. You can help them by asking them questions about what they have read. Please sign your child’s home school diary and read it for any correspondence with school. Homework will be given out every Wednesday and is due in on a Monday.
